Discord is owned and funded through nearly $500 million in venture capital funding from multiple investors. Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social platform that allows communication through voice calls, video calls, text messaging, and media and files. As of 2021, the service has over 350 million registered users and over 150 million monthly active users. It is primarily used by gamers, although the share of users interested in other topics is growing.

The gaming chat app company Discord acquired Ubiquity6, an augmented reality startup. Ubiquity6 has built a mobile app that enables augmented reality (AR) for several people at once. Users see and interact with objects presented by the fully dimensioned visual world of the Ubiquity app, immersing themselves in a creative or educational environment.
